The power of a passport is a fascinating topic, and Qatar's position in the Global Passport Power Rank 2025 is a story that deserves attention. Imagine being able to travel the world with ease, and Qatar's passport holders are doing just that!
According to the recent Global Passport Power Rank report by Arton Capital, Qatar's passport boasts a mobility score of 120, ranking it 44th globally. This means Qatari citizens can explore 69 countries visa-free and gain entry to 42 more with a visa on arrival. While they need visas for 78 countries, electronic travel authorization (ETA) is an option in nine countries, making travel more accessible.
But here's where it gets controversial: the United Arab Emirates takes the top spot, offering visa-free access to an impressive 179 countries. Singapore and Spain tie for second place, with their citizens able to travel to 175 countries without visas. It's a close race, and the rankings can shift quickly.

Among the GCC countries, Kuwait's passport follows closely behind Qatar at 45th, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are ranked 48th and Oman 51st. It's an interesting dynamic within the region.
The United States and the United Kingdom have also seen some changes. The US passport has a mobility score of 168 (passport power rank 9) in 2025, a slight drop from 173 (passport power rank 8) in 2024. Similarly, the UK's score is now 169 (passport power rank 8), down from 174 (passport power rank 7) in 2024.
The Passport Index considered 199 countries, including 193 UN member countries and six territories. A three-tier method ranked countries based on mobility scores and visa-free versus visa on arrival ratios, with the UNDP HDI 2018 as a tiebreaker. Unfortunately, global openness took a hit in 2025, with a 1.3% drop in the World Openness Score due to security measures and travel regime updates.
