A shocking incident has unfolded, leaving many basketball fans and the public alike in disbelief. Former NBA star Patrick Beverley has been arrested, accused of assaulting his own sister.
The story, as reported by the Los Angeles Times, reveals a dark side to the athlete's personal life. Beverley, now 37, faces serious charges for allegedly assaulting his teenage sister, a minor. The incident occurred early Friday morning at their mother's home in Fort Bend County, Texas.
Beverley is charged with a third-degree felony, specifically "assault family/household member impeding breath." If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of two to ten years and/or fines up to $10,000. A $40,000 bond was set, and according to TMZ, it was posted on the same day.
But here's where it gets controversial... Beverley took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his side of the story. In a series of posts, he hinted at a different narrative, stating, "Please don't believe everything you see on the internet." He further elaborated, expressing his deep concern for his sister and denying the allegations, saying, "We don't believe what followed happened the way it's been described."
And this is the part most people miss... Beverley's attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, released a statement emphasizing Beverley's lack of a criminal record and his concern for his sister's well-being. The statement suggests that the incident may have been blown out of proportion.
However, the probable cause affidavit filed on Friday paints a different picture. It details the alleged assault, where Beverley's sister claimed he grabbed her by the neck, lifted her off the ground, and squeezed her neck, causing her to feel like she couldn't breathe. She also alleged that he punched her in the eye and made threatening statements.
Deputy Miguel Ramirez, who responded to the family violence call, noted markings on the alleged victim's neck and petechiae in her eyes, supporting her claims. Beverley left the residence to confront his sister's boyfriend but returned to inform his family about the police involvement.
Ramirez wrote, "I placed Patrick Beverley in custody to prevent further family violence."
A court appearance is scheduled for December 15, where the truth will hopefully be unveiled. This story raises important questions about family dynamics, trust, and the limits of protection. What do you think? Is there more to this story than meets the eye? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
