Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection for Switch (versions 1 and 2) ships without Mortal Kombat 4 on the game cartridge, and you’ll need to download it separately.
Digital Eclipse and Atari have explained that MK4 wasn’t ready in time for the physical release windows, so the Switch builds arrived with MK4 omitted from the cartridge and offered as downloadable content instead. In contrast, other platforms include MK4 on disc or cartridge.
What this means for players who bought the physical Legacy Kollection: if you’re on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, you’ll have to connect to the Nintendo eShop and install a day-one or post-release update that adds Mortal Kombat 4 along with performance improvements and other content. Atari’s official product page has since updated to encourage players to download post-release patches to access MK4.
Nintendo Life has confirmed that a physical Switch 2 cartridge shipped with Version 1.0.1 out of the box, and an update is required to unlock MK4 and the rest of the collection. Digital Eclipse reiterates that this situation is specific to the Nintendo versions; the PlayStation 5 physical release includes all MK titles on the disc. If a future Switch cartridge reprint occurs, there’s an expectation that it would include Mortal Kombat 4.
