Suárez could play third base, shifting Marcelo Mayer back to second base.
The Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, and Boston Red Sox are all linked to Suárez in free agency. The Pirates, Tigers, and Reds are seen as potential suitors as they look to add power to their lineups. Suárez is considered the biggest bat on the market, and a return to Seattle would be a natural fit. However, the Red Sox are seen as the most aggressive team, as they are looking to push off their big issue at third base for another year or two.
The Reds and Pirates are also in need of power in the middle of their lineups, and Suárez could be a good fit for either team. The Tigers and Red Sox were both reportedly pursuing Alex Bregman, but they missed out on him to the Chicago Cubs. As a result, they could pivot to Suárez as the next best third baseman on the market.
The Mariners make sense as a suitor for Suárez, as they've lost out on Jorge Polanco and need help on the infield. Retaining Suárez should be affordable enough to be realistic.
