Michael Porter Jr. Clutch Performance! Nets Edge Bulls in Thriller | ESPN Game Recap (2026)

Brooklyn Nets 112-109 Chicago Bulls: A Thriller in the Big Apple

NEW YORK -- On Friday night, the Brooklyn Nets pulled off a stunning comeback, outlasting the Chicago Bulls 112-109 after squandering a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter. Michael Porter Jr. was the hero, sinking a crucial layup with 5.4 seconds left to secure the victory.

Porter Jr. led the Nets with 26 points, while Noah Clowney contributed 23 points and 11 rebounds, helping the team snap a five-game losing streak. Day'Ron Sharpe added 14 points, and rookie Danny Wolf chipped in 13. For the Bulls, Nikola Vucevic scored 19 points, and Ayo Dosunmu had 18.

The game was the first of a home-and-home series, and it was a close affair throughout. Coach Jordi Fernandez expressed confidence that the Nets could have won all three games on their road trip, but the team's resilience in the face of adversity was remarkable.

Brooklyn's strong start included a 15-0 run in the second quarter, which gave them a 17-point halftime lead, their second-largest of the season. However, the Bulls fought back in the fourth, with Cam Thomas' 3-pointer giving the Nets a 92-72 lead. The Bulls then scored 11 consecutive points, but Thomas' quick response with another 3-pointer halted their momentum.

The game's dramatic finish saw the Bulls take a 109-108 lead on Tre Jones' layup with 11.4 seconds remaining. The Nets' strategic play led to Porter Jr. getting the ball near the basket, and he delivered the game-winning layup. Rookie Drake Powell's steal and Clowney's two free throws sealed the deal, making the final score 112-109.

Brooklyn's early lead of 42-38 in the second quarter should have been more substantial, but Matas Buzelis' missed fast-break dunk attempt kept the Bulls in the game. Clowney's three-point plays and Porter's 3-pointer extended the lead to 17, but Egor Demin's free throws ended the run at 57-38.

The teams will meet again on Sunday in Chicago, where the Bulls will look to even the series.
