Prepare to be dazzled by the vibrant world of Labrum London's Fall 2026 collection, titled 'Joy to the World'! This showcase is a celebration of textiles and their ability to unite cultures and continents. But here's where it gets intriguing: Foday Dumbuya, the creative mind behind Labrum, decided to showcase his message through an unconventional runway setup. He brought Harris table looms to the catwalk, inviting weavers to demonstrate their craft live, and opened the show with a monologue inspired by Shakespeare, delving into themes of culture, travel, and the fabric of our global connections.
Initially, it seemed like a straightforward, albeit earnest, presentation. But then, the magic happened. The models emerged, and the collection came to life with a burst of summery hues, sharp tailoring, and an undeniable swagger.
Each piece in this collection was a masterpiece in its own right. From military-inspired trouser suits with patch pockets and golden chains, reminiscent of officers' regalia, to block-print dresses, trenches, and trousers in refreshing sea foam and cyan blues, every outfit exuded appeal. The roomy dark blue shirts, adorned with delicate white embroidery, added a touch of elegance.
Creating a collection that's both wearable and full of attitude is no small feat, but Dumbuya pulled it off effortlessly. Models strutted down the runway in denim block-print tailored suits or curvy dresses, topped off with hats resembling giant rooster crests, all crafted from the same vibrant fabrics.
Dumbuya's design palette was a global affair, incorporating crochet, raffia, Indian embroidery, and Chinese silks. He drew inspiration from the traditional pottery of his homeland, Sierra Leone, resulting in a collection that was nothing short of visually stunning.
He added unique touches, like a black fabric flower on the lapel of a cream embroidered suit, a row of dark toggles adorning a white coat with a tall collar, and tartan fabric transformed into sarong-inspired skirts and suits paired with sneakers.
The collection was a joyful explosion of style, and Labrum has more in store. As a regular collaborator with Adidas, they have a three-way project with the German sports brand and retailer End, set to launch in early April. Additionally, Dumbuya has designed a one-of-a-kind bag for Land's End and is preparing to open his first store in Freetown, Sierra Leone, within a few weeks. Whether he chooses to recite another monologue or not, 2026 is shaping up to be Dumbuya's year to shine.
