Bold claim: the Giants are laying the groundwork for a turnaround, and Joe Schoen insists the pieces are in place to guide the franchise forward.
When New York dismissed head coach Brian Daboll last month, the team announced that General Manager Joe Schoen would spearhead the search for Daboll’s successor. Both Daboll and Schoen were brought aboard in 2022, turning the decision to part ways with one leader into a hot topic during Schoen’s bye-week press briefing this week. He stressed that his hand is on the process just as much as Daboll’s, attributing the club’s troubling win-loss record to ownership’s decision while promising he will focus on what he can control.
Schoen candidly admitted that he’s better at the GM role now than when he first joined the organization, acknowledging that the odds of him hitting a perfect streak are gone. Still, he emphasized that lessons have been learned from past mistakes and vowed not to repeat them. He pointed to players like Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, Brian Burns, and Andrew Thomas, among others, as evidence that some evaluation moves have paid off and that the team has laid a solid foundation for future growth.
He framed these positives as the reason he remains confident in his approach to selecting the next head coach and leading the organization toward its goals. “There are pieces in place,” Schoen asserted. “I have confidence in our ability and in the process to identify the right leader for the next chapter. I truly believe we’re going to get it right.”
Schoen’s track record has long been a source of skepticism, but the coming years will test whether his optimism holds up in 2026 and beyond.
