Dax Shepard has made an unexpected proposal regarding his daughter’s future, stirring conversations around parenting and choices.
In a recent episode of his podcast, "Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard," the actor, who is 51 years old, revealed to his co-host Monica Padman that he discussed with his 11-year-old daughter Delta the option of freezing her eggs when she reaches adulthood at 18.
He stated, "I told her, ‘If you’re interested, we’ll arrange for your eggs to be frozen when you turn 18. I will cover the costs so that it’s one less thing for you to worry about.’" In his remarks, Shepard acknowledged his privilege by noting, "Of course, this isn’t feasible for the vast majority of people."
He elaborated, saying, "But I believe it’s a practical solution. She, like many young women, will face the dilemma of balancing career ambitions and motherhood, which is something every woman grapples with."
The offer came after Delta expressed her enthusiasm about becoming a mother someday, prompting Shepard to make the generous suggestion. He even mentioned that Delta demonstrates qualities of a caring parent already, illustrated by how she looks after her stuffed animals, describing their home life as "a traveling circus of Delty’s stuffies."
When discussing her future plans, he playfully asked her, "When do you think you might have your first child? Do you think it will be when you’re 18?" His intent was to show support and ensure she felt comfortable expressing her aspirations without fear of judgment.
Interestingly, Delta seemed uninterested in his proposal, mentioning that she envisions herself having children in her mid-20s, which reflects her own thoughts on timing and life priorities.
In addition to Delta, Shepard is also the father of a 12-year-old daughter named Lincoln, whom he shares with his wife, actress Kristen Bell.
Recently, Bell faced criticism over an anniversary post where she made a joke about domestic violence, leading some fans to label her comments as insensitive. In her Instagram message celebrating their 12-year marriage, she wrote, "Happy anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. Many men do harm their wives at some point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to do so, I would never.’" This comment sparked a swift backlash, with followers asserting, "Domestic violence isn’t a joke," and questioning the humor behind her statement.
Shepard and Bell's love story began in 2007 at a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend, and they later reconnected at a hockey game. After two years together, they became engaged in 2009, ultimately marrying in a small ceremony at Beverly Hills courthouse in October 2013. Reflecting on their wedding day, Bell shared in November 2022, "We didn’t want to interact with anyone else but each other; we aimed to be fully present in that moment."
This blend of parenting choices and public scrutiny presents food for thought about the evolving roles of family and humor in celebrity culture.
